Gordon Douglas' Them - 1954

THEM

DIRECTOR: Gordon Douglas
YEAR: 1954

Atomic testing has caused New Mexico desert ants to grow to monstrous proportions. The beasts head to the sewers of Los Angeles feasting on humans along the way. James Whitmore, James Arness and Joan Weldon devise a way to destroy the invading insects. Look closely for Leonard Nimoy and Atomic character actor William Schallert in small parts in this often imitated sci-fi classic.

Archer's other civil defense film ('Duck And Cover' being the more well known) is a ponderous examination of the dangers of civilians abandoning an A-bombed city.
